Fiction
Stories & Drama

I hope to be putting all my short stories on this website eventually. A few have been published; many have not even been offered for publication - I always seemed to be too busy writing, working or doing other things (I know - sounds like excuses!). Each story will have a short description to help you decide which you might like to read. Those underlined in the list below are available to read now. Just click on the title. If you are interested in reading any others, please contact me.

To encourage budding writers, the stories are listed in the order I wrote them, so if you read them in that order you will be able to see how a writer develops. If you go to the last story, you may find it is still in preparation, which may help you further.

Please feel free to print or download any of these stories for your own personal use. If anyone wishes to publish or adapt any of my work in any form elsewhere, they must ask for my written permission (in which case, contact me).

All stories not underlined are available by e-mail (contact me), as scanned typed documents, or as hard copy, on request.

Stories
[1] Eve of Infinity (1971)
Science fiction. A dark look at the future at the height of the Cold War. We really didn't know if the world was going to end soon. Ben Bova likened my writing to that of John W Campbell. I hope he meant it.
[2] The Journey (1971)
For my second story, written shortly after the first, I wanted to do something different. A mild thriller, still dark, though!
[3] The Good Listener (1971)
Romance.
[4] Root of All Evil (1971)
Futuristic thriller.
[5] The Last Straw (1972)
Short story.

[29] Facelift (1978)

[30] New Is Beautiful (1978) (Published in Omni, 1980)
Science fiction. It was a sparkling new world. But everyone in it had to pay a price. Everyone.
Note: I signed away my copyright to this story. If it was good enough (and it was), they would have published it anyway. But I was so excited at the prospect of $900 that I would have signed anything. Don't do it. Why? If, for example, the story was made into a film (well, you don't know, do you?), I might get nothing.

[44] Clock story (2001)
Science fiction for children, taking place in Clockworld

Drama
Eventually I hope to include some advice here on drama. However, as I haven't had any drama published (as opposed to performed), I can only make what I think are helpful suggestions. Watch this space...

Plays I have completed (script available in hard copy - contact me) are:

Sunset
- a romantic modern sequel to Brief Encounter (1980s)
Rats!
- a full-length musical romp for children based on and around The Pied Piper (performed on amateur stage in the 1980s with live music - video made)
Singing Inside
- science fiction, set in Earth's distant past, when a choice has to be made about the future of humanity...
